Bikram Yoga

 

Bikram Yoga is a series of 26 Poses performed in a room heated from around 90-100 degrees farenheit. Its founder was Bikram Choudray who studied with Bishnu Ghosh the brother of Paramahansa Yogananda. Each of the Yoga Poses used are usually perfomed twice and held for length of time so you really feel the benefits.The Yoga session starts with the standing posture, then backbends, forward bends and twists. Kapalabhati Breath or the "Breath of Fire" accompanies the Poses.

In order for you to go deeper and safely into the Yoga Poses heat is used in Bikram Yoga, your body will become more flexible in the heat and because most of the Poses in Bikram are physically challenging, the heat will allow you to get into a Pose that you never thought you could. The heat also helps to reduce the risk of injury, it promotes sweating which helps you to release the toxins in your body.

Bikram Yoga has been scientificaly designed to warm and stretch your muscles, ligaments and tendons in the way they should be stretched.This style of Yoga promotes the cleansing of the body by releasing the toxins and giving the body flexibility,Reducing stress and increasing blood circulation is also a benefit.

Practicing Bikram Yoga can help you lose weight, develop toned and strong muscles as well as massaging your internal organs. Even people with chronic diseases may benefit by doing Yoga Poses by reducing the symptoms. Bikram Yoga is one of the best ways of preventing any ailments by keeping your body healthy.

 Its founder Bikram was helped himself by this style of Yoga as he had injured his knee whilst training for weightlifting, he had been told by doctors that he would never walk again. But after consulting his Yoga teacher he continued with his Yoga Practice and his daily Asanas which allowed him to rebuild his muscle and walk again.

The same routine is performed in every Bikram Yoga class and you should let your body tell you how often you should practice. Only you can decide if this is the right style of Yoga for you as many people find Bikram Yoga boring and repetative.
